Johnson City BOE approves fall sports to continue

The Johnson City Board of Education has given the green light for fall sports to continue amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a 6-1 vote during a meeting Monday, the board approved the district’s fall sports plan, with an amendment which includes a pledge that student athletes must sign that commits then to follow COVID-19 precautions on and off the field.

Another amendment was made to clarify that all fall sports would continue, including contact and non-contact sports. Limited seating capacity with assigned seating is also planned at games, as talks of live streaming events will be discussed Wednesday, according to Science Hill High School Athletic Director Keith Turner.

The Hilltoppers are slated to play their first home game of the condensed 2020 football season against David Crockett on Aug. 28. – Electric 94.9 News Room
