Popular Southwest Virginia Recreational Trail, Just Got A Little Bigger
A recreational thorough fare between Bristol and rural parts of Southwest Virginia just got a little longer and closer to its planned 12 and a half mile trail when complete. The Mendota Trail, a former railroad property, offering visitors countryside, and woodlands views on a gentle grade to popular stops like the Virginia Creeper Trail, officially opened three new trestles on Sunday. The additional mile of trail, showcases multiple water crossings, including the only bridge across the North Fork of the Holston River. The new trails were funded by state dollars and private donors.
