Authorities still searching for missing VT student

Authorities say a missing Virginia Tech student who was supposed to arrive in Abingdon on Friday seemed to be acting irregularly before disappearing. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says 20 year old Jonathan “Johnny” Roop is believed to have left the county on his own Friday. Roop is a senior at Virginia Tech and was expected at his parents’ home in Abingdon by 5 p.m., but never arrived. Surveillance images from businesses show Roop in the Christiansburg area around 3:30 p.m. Friday and Roop’s phone was pinged in Christiansburg at 4:26 p.m. near a mall. Officials say that Mr. Roop’s behavior on Friday was not consistent within his normal patterns.
