Johnson City BOE approves new cell phone policy
The Johnson City Board of Education has approved on first reading, an updated cell phone policy Monday night. The updated policy would allow Science Hill High School administrators to require students to store their devices during the school day, even during non-instructional time. The policy is designed to be able to make changes as and where necessary in the future. While the current policy already bans elementary and middle school students from using “personal communication devices,” the updated policy would specifically list cell phones, smartwatches and tablets as examples of banned devices. The updated policy will be up for a second reading at the board’s meeting in April.
