New owners ready to turn laps at renovated Newport Speedway

The owner of the popular Cotton Eyed Joe nightspot in Knoxville plans to go racing in Cocke County.
A published report says real estate company owner Chuck Ward has purchased Newport Speedway and plans to make a significant investment on and around the property.
Ward, who owned a race team in the 1990s, also said he wants to stage a major concert on the track infield this year. The asphalt track with 26 degree banking has not hosted a race since 2017.
With the news of a possible return for Newport, I had a note passed to me today that says that Southside Speedway in VA is absolutely also on the path to a return. Incredible to hear these two historic facilities will soon be back in operation. https://t.co/BLAVfYxBBp
