State Police: Juvenile fatally shot two robbers in self-defense

The Kentucky State Police reported two men who attempted a home invasion in neighboring Clay County were shot by a juvenile and died from their wounds.

One burglar identified as 44-year-old Roger Smith of McKee died at a local hospital; the other was Jeffery Allen, 51, of Manchester, who police said died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation said the two men entered a home in the city of Manchester when the juvenile spotted them trying to steal guns from a safe.

The child went to another room, retrieved a gun, then in self defense shot the robbers before escaping through a bedroom window. The incident remains under investigation.
