TDEC orders CSX to stop excavation from Nolichucky River
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has ordered CSX to stop excavation from the Nolichucky River, according to a notice of violation sent Wednesday. The order comes after two environmental advocacy groups sued, alleging the railroad company is pulling rock directly out of the river and government agencies improperly approved it. TDEC claims the activities exceed conditions of the General Permit, issued on October 16, and may subject CSX to penalties for each day the violation occurs or continues.
